Why Indian D2C brands cannot ignore DPDP compliance
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act 2023, personal data includes any data about an individual who is identifiable. In an e-commerce context, this applies to customer names, shipping addresses, telephone numbers, emails, order histories, and device identifiers collected by tracking cookies.
Section 6(1) requires consent to be free, specific, informed, unconditional, and unambiguous. Generic banners that say "By using this store, you agree to our privacy policy" do not meet the statutory bar and carry statutory penalties of up to ₹250 crore under Schedule 1.
Preserving ad conversion attribution with Google Consent Mode v2
Many D2C founders worry that cookie banners will break their Meta Pixel, Google Ads, or Klaviyo marketing. ConsentPlix solves this with Google Consent Mode v2 integration. When a visitor has not yet consented, Google tags operate in a privacy-preserving state using ping signals, ensuring your campaigns continue to receive conversion modeling without violating Indian data protection rules.
